• Leonor Mendoza has been working as a sculptor since 1990. Interested in disclosing similarities and differences between “fragility and strength, contained and continent”, Leonor’s work is a result of the actions of collecting, shaping, stamping, sewing, pressing, observing and installing. She has found great inspiration in both natural and industrial processes and work to create a seamless collaboration between the two. She holds a BFA from the Federico Brandt Art Institute in Caracas and a Residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2000). Her solo shows include: [TERRITORIES] Con-jugar (Bridge Gallery. NY, 2009), ORAL/SENSUAL (Hardcore Art Contemporary Space. FL, 2006), SEWING BRICKS (Galeria Galou, Williamsburg, NY, 2004), LANGUAGE (Art Nouveau Gallery, Maracaibo, Vzla, 1998), SCENT – SUBSTANCE – LIFE (Muci Gallery, Caracas, Vzla, 1996), CONTAINED – CONTINENT (Muci Gallery, Caracas, Vzla,1994). She has participated in-group exhibitions in countries such as Venezuela, Canada, United States, and Italy. Among these shows can be highlighted her participation at the Caribbean: Together Apart (Fondazione Luciano Benetton, Italy, 2013), Art Miami (Art Nouveau Gallery, Miami, 2013), Museo del Barrio's 6th Biennal / The (S) Files. (Museo del Barrio, NY, 2011), Bellwether 2010 (Bellevue, WA, 2010), 7th Biennal: A.I.R Gallery Curated by Connie Butler (A.I.R Gallery, NY, 2007), Auction 06. Contemporary Latin American Art (Museum of Latin American Art (MoLLA), CA, 2006), A Visual Dialogue Through the Americas (Hickory Museum, NC, 1999), L‘ International Sculpture Sur Niege (Quebec, Canada,1999, 98), Landscape (Art Museum of the Americas (OAS), Washington, DC, 1997) Her work is represented in the Collection of Fondazione Luciano Benetton (Italy), Jacobo Borges Museum (Venezuela), Art Museum of the Americas, (USA) Venezuelan Industrial Bank (Venezuela), Sidetur (Venezuela) and Mendoza's work have been featured in the New York Times, Architectural Records Magazine, NY Arts Magazine, Art Nexus, among others.
