Patricia Gouvêa was born on 1973 in Rio de Janeiro, where she lives and works. As a visual artist, she works with photography, video, installation and urban intervention. Her work focuses on moving photography, images and their potential interfaces. The notion of time is the drive behind her research. She has published the books “Membranas de Luz: os tempos na imagem contemporânea” [Membranes of Light: times in contemporary imagery] (2011), "Imagens Posteriores" [Posterior Images] (2012) and "Banco de Tempo" [Benches of Time] (2014), and collaborated in many others. Patricia’s work has been recognized through awards as the Fundação Cultural da Bahia (2013), the Prêmio Diário Contemporâneo de Fotografia, Pará, Belém (2012), and Best in Show for series Imagens Posteriores from Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografía in Buenos Aires (2002). She work has also been selected for participation in the Festival Fringe – Voies OFF in France (2003) and in the 5º. Prêmio Revelação de Artes Plásticas de Americana, Museu de Arte Contemporânea in São Paulo (2002). Her work has been showcased in solo exhibitions throughout Europe, South America, as well as China. She served as a panelist for the Festival Internacional de Fotografia de Belo Horizonte (2013), the 3a Semana Fnac Epson de Fotografia, SP (2012) and at the 1o. Festival Foto em Pauta Tiradentes (2011). Over the past ten years she has participated in numerous collective exhibitions, along with presenting discourse on her practice in academic, organizational and public settings.
