At age 22, Delta Nine became the youngest artist to win the National Artist Salon in his native Bolivia. Delta Nine’s work evolves around two different elements: natural materials and recycled natural objects that are retrieved by the artist and are physically integrated in his mixed media pieces with the absolute opposite; adding a superficial layer to it, creating a material vs. nature storm dialogue. He is interested in that fine line between the artificial and natural form, never choosing one over the other. His work alludes to environmental and nature conservancy, such as the case of his known fallen tree series, where he used dead trees that were retrieved to later be treated; recontextualized and eventually brought back to life.
"I try to make my pieces as simple as possible, however that’s not what happens most
of the times..."
