Born in Marseille, France in 1992, lives and works in London, England. Emma Vidal’s work depicts 'a post-apocalyptic world in ruins', a declining world where humanity is facing its loss. The artist questions both the vulnerability of mankind and its will to survive in settled chaos.
I first started with the drawings. From them I started to think about the world and society that I had created; a society looking for a new order, a new religion. Thus, I thought of the deities they could imagine for themselves. This is how my first sculptures – the ‘Fetish Sculpture’ series – were born. I have been very much inspired by voodoo symbolism and Congolese religious art.
